Nyesom Wike, the Governor of Rivers State, stated criteria on Saturday that he would adopt in order to join with those pushing for a consensus arrangement for something like the emergence of a presidential candidate for the 2023 elections among the Peoples Democratic Party’s contenders.
He also said that those demanding a consensus PDP presidential candidate are really not “genuine and honest,” adding that he is willing to support whatever the party’s presidential flagbearer is.
Wike made the remarks while visiting PDP delegates in Minna, Niger State, on Saturday, ahead of the leading opposition party’s primary contest.
He stated that if a consensus was built on equality, justice, and fairness, he would agree to it.
The presidential candidate stated that he’d been a member of a political party since 1998 and that, despite the party’s rough season, he had never quit.
“I’ll agree to consensus if it’s founded on equality, justice, and fairness, since people who talk about consensus aren’t honest, and our constitution doesn’t mention consensus.”
“Whoever the torchbearer is, I will do all in my power to guarantee that the PDP wins the election,” he stated.
Wike stated that the Buhari administration’s anti-corruption campaign was selective.
“I’d want to inform you that this administration is really deceitful, and they have fooled us enough.” You have powerful individuals, you imprison them after all the legal processes and money has been wasted, and then you mock the courts by awarding them pardon,” he explained.
He asked how the world community could expect the international community to recognize a president who mocks the country’s legal system.
“How would the world community see us if we continue to do things like this?” Consider the amount of money spent on prosecutions, and then you wake up one morning and it’s all messed up because of politics.”
Wike further remarked that the state pardons awarded to former Plateau Governor Joshua Dariye and his Taraba State counterpart, Jolly Nyame, are timed to coincide with the next national election.
“He plainly wants them to aid him during the elections; Dariye will work for Plateau, while Nyame will work for Taraba.”
